Oscar-Nominated Actress and Trailblazer Diahann Carroll dies at 84

It’s been confirmed by AP News first of the death of the legendary Diahann Carroll

Carroll died of cancer at the age of 84 in LA.  Besides being an Oscar-nominated actress, she was the first black woman to star in her own show “Julia” She is also known for the soap opera “Dynasty”  in which she was also the first black woman to star in that show. Other shows that Carroll was in was the 1959 “Porgy and Bess” starring Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge and Sammy Davis, Jr.  In 1962 she won the best actress Tony Award in a Broadway musical called “No Strings” and in 1974, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in “Claudine”  


Diahann Carroll will truly be missed, but her legacy and accomplishments will never be forgotten.
